Day 15 – Installing the Transmission Mounts, Painting Bottom of Transmission

Next, I decided to run out to Home Depot and buy all the mounting hardware I’ll need to install the transmission mounts. So, I put the mounts on the rail to see how they would look. Then, I took one of the mounts over to the transmission to see if that would line up with the outward holes on the mount. No such luck. The inner holes lined up…the inner holes also lined up on the rail chassis. But, they cannot occupy the same space if installed. Looks like these rear mounts that I bought might fit on a stock beetle but, they will not work for me here. Hmmm, puzzled. now what?

I bolted in the front transmission mount and that seemed to go okay. I also flipped the transmission over and began cleaning that up with a wire wheel on my Skil electric drill. Once the transmission was ready, I applied the Rustoleum automotive primer and then the yellow, orange and read. While doing that, I also flipped the steering damper shock over and painted that. Now, I just have to wait for everything to dry. Here are some pics.
