Continuing on from earlier, since I had my welder already out…I thought I would weld on the shifter box. First, I had to connect and align the shift rod. Then put the car in Neutral. Next, I pulled out my grinder and cleaned off where I was going to weld on both the shifter box and the rails where I was going to weld it to. Lastly, I applied grease liberally to the shift rod cup, installed the shifter plate and spring, then bolted the EMPI shifter to the shifter box. It all went pretty smoothly, no problems. Tested the shifter afterwards, worked fine.
